Sample punch (disc punch) for 3mm samples

This precision disc punch efficiently cuts 3mm transmission electron microscope (TEM) sample-discs from ductile and soft materials, while maintaining structural properties. The precisely manufactured punch guarantees well-defined edges and easy disc removal even after long term use.

The disc punch prepares specimen discs of 3mm in diameter and material thicknesses ranging from 10μm to above 200μm for transmission electron microscopy and other analysis.

During sample preparation and punching minimizing of distortion of the sample material is essential. The disc punch is designed with the cutting piston recessed in the center region and surrounded by a flat rim that minimizes forces in the central specimen region. The recess avoids compression, and the rim prevents the cutting forces from affecting the center region of the specimen. The cut sample disc is pressed against a spring-loaded support piston which automatically ejects the punched disc into a removable collection tray.

The precisely manufactured disc punch cuts with uniform pressure and produces samples with sharp cut edges and low stress. Its design allows good sample handling to punch at the preferred position. The sample discs are then easily removed for further investigation.

The precision punch is made of strong metal to do a good job for a long time.

Examples of materials that can be punched: Metal foil or sheets (up to 400µm) e.g. aluminum, copper ect., paper, membrane filters, razor blades, synthetic materials, ect.
